Miami Dade College is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the US and currents serves 160,000 students across 8 campuses in Miami Dade County. We hope our engagement with Japan to be in any of the 4 categories described below:
a) A Japanese institution interested in partnering with MDC to create a 2-way, faculty-led, short-term exchange, to be supported by the Tomodachi program, a program of the US-Japan Council. MDC would submit a proposal for funding. We understand the US-Japan Council programs are focused on the Environmental Sciences.
b) A Japanese institution interested in partnering with MDC to create a one-way, short-term, faculty-led, study abroad program for MDC students to travel to Japan during the summer of 2020. Undergraduate students only. Flexibility with fields of study but open to partners in Animation/Gaming/Fashion/Business.
c) A Japanese institution interested in long-term exchanges (semester or academic year) where students pay tuition at their respective home institution (waivers on both ends). For this type of agreement, scholarships from a Japanese partner institution would be ideal to cover living expenses as MDC students usually come from low socio-economic backgrounds and are mostly first generation, first-time passport holder. MDC’s Honors College students would be ideal for this type of exchange.
d) To promote MDC as an academic institution for Japanese students interested in pursuing full degrees abroad. MDC is authorized to offer F, J and M visas for vocation, technical and academic exchanges.
